On Sept. 15 the Rangely Panthers took on the Coal Ridge Titans. The freshman team fell short, losing the first set 23-25.
Courtney Files led the team in serves and assists. In the second set the Panthers again fought hard but lost 19-25. The JV team took a loss in two sets 16-25 and 17-25. Aubrey Kenney led the team in aces with three in the second set and Kenzie Satterly had one. Tylee Fielder led in digs with 11 followed by Sidney Lujan with 10 and Satterly with nine. Varsity once again took the match after dropping the first set against Coal Ridge. Miley Chism led the team with four aces, with Karlee Halcomb chipping in three aces.
Karlee Halcomb led the team with 11 earned points with Kaitlyn Cox adding in 10 points. Setters did a great job moving the ball to all the hitters which led to Kyrah Phelps leading with 10 kills, Annika Cantrell and Lexi LeBleu with nine kills each. Ashlynn Ducey led the team defensively in blocks with five and Emma Smith with 30 digs. Kristiana Terry passed and played great defense as well. Emmeree Wagner played smart at the net to help the Panthers to victory. Sept. 17 Rangely took on the Caprock Eagles in a tough game for most of the team. The Eagles beat the Panthers 25-20 and 25-14. Chloe Noel had an awesome game at the net with multiple blocks.
The freshmen have a full week of practice before the next matches. The JV team played hard and took them to three sets; 25-14, 23-25 but lost in the third set 11-15. Lujan led the team in aces with four followed by Aubrey Kenney and Satterly each with two. Addie Scott led in kills with five followed by Aubrianna Tapia with three and Lujan with two. Satterly and Tylee Fielder each had seven digs followed by Lujan with six and Paola Munoz with five. As Rangely took to the floor after the JV the girls looked ready to go. As the first set progressed, Rangely looked a little slow couldn’t quite get things rolling, dropping the first set to Caprock. Rangely came back and won the match in the next three sets. Caprock had a hard time handling the serve and putting together an offense and the Panthers capitalized on it. Miley Chism led the team in aces with 4, and Karlee Halcomb chipping in 3.
Miley Chism and Kaitlyn Cox both had 16 earned points behind the service line. Again, the setters did a great job moving the ball around to all hitters. Cantrell led the team with six kills, while LeBleu, Emmeree Wagner and Phelps had five kills each. Wagner had another great game at the net with five blocks. Chism led with 26 digs defensively, with Phelps adding in 19 digs. Ducey played some tough defense and hit the ball well. Terry and Smith both worked hard in the back with great passes and great defense. “We are going to head to the gym and come back stronger mentally and physically for our next match against Meeker on Saturday, Sept. 24,” said coach Marybel Cox.
