RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers track and field competed in their second meet of the season this past weekend at the North Fork Invitational in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Despite taking a smaller group of athletes, the Panthers competed hard and had several great performances.
On the girls side, it was just Miah and Taya Wren competing. Between the two sisters, every running event was competed in expect the hurdles and two mile was run. Miah kept things short and fast, running the 100m in 14.16, the 200m in 29.87, and the 400m in 1:05.91. Taya, on the other hand, opted for the longer races. Taya finished third in the 800m in 2:38.29 and was second in the 1600m in 5:37.07.
On the track for the boys were Landon Bollinger, Davon Lucero, Caiden French, Clay Allred, Dylan Moran, Gage Nielsen and Matthew Morgan. Bollinger and Lucero each competed in the 100m dash, running times of 13.24 and 13.29, respectively. Lucero returned to the track for the 200m in which he ran 27.98. French was the lone Panther in the 400m, finishing in 1:02.82. In the 800m, Allred led the way with his time of 2:25.06, followed by Moran’s 2:36.96, French 2:48.22, Nielsen 3:05.12, and Morgan 3:19.28. Allred also finished the 1600m in 5:33.32 alongside Nielsen’s 6:30.82 and Morgan’s 7:10.45.
Out on the field, Chase Cochrane made his debut in the throwing rings. Cochrane threw the discus 101-9 and the shot put 36-1. On the jumping side, Bollinger cleared 5-0 in the high jump and Allred leapt 33-11.75 in the triple jump. In the long jump, Bollinger led the way with his jump of 17-5 as Lucero leapt 13-11.5.
The Panthers will be competing next at the Cedaredge Invitational on March 30 with the full team.
