RANGELY | Last Friday the Panthers traveled to Nucla for a on-league game.
“Having league games on Saturday we were behind the 8-ball for pitching. Our bats never woke up from the long bus ride,” said coach Jerry LeBleu. The Panthers lost to the Mustangs 21-2, striking out nine times with only three hits and committing four errors. Two of the three hits belonged to Austin Davis, who also drove in two.
The JV team won against the Mustangs 9-8, giving the younger players good experience.
Saturday the Panthers took on the Olathe Pirates for two league games. Justin Cudo started on the mound for the Panthers. He threw an outstanding game, going 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out six and one walk.
The Panthers notched 13 hits against the Pirates to score nine runs, winning the game 9-2. Myers, Moore, Cudo and Richens all had multiple hits, with Myers and Richens having three hits each. Richens got his third home run of the season with a three run blast over the left center fence.
In the second game of the double header, Keihlin Myers started on the mound and went six innings with one run, two hits, and striking out 11 batters. The Panthers racked up 11 hits.
In the seventh inning Rangely was up 5-0, but the Pirates scored five runs to send the game into extra innings. The Panthers put up three runs in the top of the eighth but gave up four to the Pirates to lose 9-8 in a “heartbreaker.”
“We had some mental mistakes but we can correct them and learn from them,” said coach LeBleu.
