Panthers win season opener, head to Del Norte on Friday

RANGELY | This weekend the Panthers hosted the Dove Creek Bulldogs for the season opener. The Panthers started off the night quickly and never took the foot off of the pedal. Having a sped-up clock at halftime with a lead of 44-0. Scoring in the first half for the Panthers were Tytus Coombs, AJ Lujan, Drew Brannon, Trenton Files and CJ Lucero. The Panthers controlled the game at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Lineman to recognize for the night are Del Garner, Stetson Cudo, Grady Nielson, Rylee Boydsten and Lane Gillard.
Defensively the Panthers put on dominating display as well. Led by captain Stetson Cudo with five sacks on the night. Other notable stats: Nielson had two sacks, five tackles and a fumble recovery; Tytus Coombs had four tackles and one interception; Anthony Lujan had eight tackles; AJ Lujan had four tackles; Lane Gillard had eight tackles and Rylee Boydstun had two tackles and a sack. The Panthers won the game 44-18.
The team travels to Del Norte Friday to take on the Tigers.
