The Meeker Lions Club, which celebrates its 100th year this year, dedicated the installation of new playground equipment at the Admin Building on Sixth Street to the Town of Meeker last Saturday.
The playground equipment was partially funded by a $150,000 grant that was provided by Colorado Health Foundation (CHF). They give grants for projects like our playground. To obtain the grant it had to provide benefit to all demographics, to be close to other like facilities, show a need for location due to safety concerns and certain other criteria. Further funding assistance was provided by Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, White River Electric Association, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Pioneers Healthcare Foundation, Scott Contracting, Lions Club members, the Meeker School District and more. Those who donated $1,000 or more are listed on the sign.
Approximately $164,000 total was raised for the playground between the CHF donation, rifle raffle, and individual donations. Any excess over the total cost of the playground, (perhaps $3,000) is being used to enable maintenance on the equipment.
