MEEKER | On Saturday, April 29, all trails lead to Meeker as horse trailers and trainers from all across Colorado, Montana and Wyoming kick up dust and arrive to check out and select their beautiful Rio Blanco mustangs. This year, we are excited to offer some of the beautiful herd from the Piceance Herd Management Area. The wild horses were gathered last summer and have been specially selected for this year’s event.
Something special this year besides trainers picking their own horses is the public being invited to bid on–and take home–their own untouched mustang from the Piceance. There will be eight to 10 of these, both yearlings and older horses, so come and check them out starting Friday from noon to 7 p.m. They’ll be auctioned off starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Join us Saturday morning, April 29, as trainers select their horses for the 2023 Meeker Mustang Makeover. The excitement will begin at 8:30 a.m. when trainers draw their number for order of selection. After the horses are selected, Steve Mantle of Mantle Ranches will put on two clinics for “Starting Your Wild Horse” with the first clinic focused on yearlings, and the second on three-year-old and older horses. Refreshments will be available, both breakfast and lunch. Don’t miss out, join us for this exciting day with fellow lovers of horses and the west!
