The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Meeker VFW and Women’s Auxiliary presented the VFW Pledge of Allegiance award to preschoolers. It is a certificate of good citizenship and Pledge of Allegiance award. Local WWII veteran Bill Crawford gave Pledge of Allegiance pencils, Kim Gould of the Women’s Auxiliary gave out coloring books, and past VFW Post 5843 Commander Tom Kilduff presented the certificate. Kilduff started presenting certificates 14 years ago. He also teaches the students the proper salute which he gives to them to “honor you for getting the award.” Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11 and veterans in Rangely and Meeker will be honored, first in Rangely on Nov. 9 with a barbecue for all veterans served at noon at the Elks Lodge by Alliance Energy and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Meeker with lunch served by the Meeker Chamber of Commerce to veterans following and 21-gun salute and presentation of colors on the courthouse lawn. Barone Middle School also invites veterans to an all-school assembly Monday, Nov. 12.
