PMC orthopedics program adds new surgeon to team

PRESS RELEASE

Colorado Advanced Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, and Spine (CAO) is located in Meeker, Colorado, on the Pioneers Medical Center Campus. The clinic welcomes dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon Alejandro Miranda, M.D., to its growing surgical team.

Dr. Miranda is an orthopedic surgeon with board certification in sports and foot and ankle orthopedic surgery. He has completed a dual fellowship and has extensive experience in his field. He was previously associated with the Steamboat Orthopedic and Spine Institute and practiced in Steamboat Springs.

“It’s a privilege to join the Meeker community and growing orthopedic team at Pioneers Medical Center. I’m excited to bring foot and ankle expertise to the region,” said Dr. Miranda.

Dr. Miranda specializes in cartilage restoration, Achilles tendon repair, ankle replacement surgeries, upper and lower extremity fractures, and sporting injuries for foot, ankle, and knee.

Dr. Miranda started at the orthopedic clinic this month and has already begun seeing patients. Dr. Kevin Borchard, a CAO orthopedic surgeon and Chief Surgical Officer, is excited about Dr. Miranda, and the clinic has well-received his arrival.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Miranda join us at CAO. Foot and ankle treatment and surgery have been underrepresented in our area for a long time. It is fantastic that we can offer these services to our patients,” said Dr. Borchard.

Pioneers Medical Center CEO Liz Sellers echoes Dr. Borchard’s excitement about Dr. Miranda joining the team.

“Dr. Miranda is an excellent addition to our orthopedic surgical team. At Pioneers Medical Center, our top priority has always been to provide patient-centered care. As our orthopedics program expands, we remain steadfast in our commitment to prioritizing our patients’ needs. Dr. Miranda shares our values, principles, and dedication to putting patients first,” Liz Sellers said.

Dr. Miranda received Fellowship Training at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, Santa Monica, California; University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

He also serves as a member of the medical unit for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard team, and he frequently travels internationally as the team physician for the U.S. Snowboardcross Team. He has also served as a team physician for the US Men’s and Women’s National Soccer Teams, UCI World Cycling, Amgen Tour of California, and PGA tours. In addition, he has had the opportunity to work as a medical consultant with FC Barcelona.

PMC recently received the Healthgrades 2024 Joint Replacement Excellence Award™, making it the only hospital in the Western Slope to receive this recognition. Recipients of this honor rank among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for the specialty in which they have been recognized.

PMC was also awarded two five-star ratings for total knee replacement and total hip replacement procedures. The Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award is given to hospitals that demonstrate exceptional clinical performance, with clinical outcomes being the sole criterion for winning the award. The 2024 hospital assessment focused on patient mortality and complication rates among 35 common conditions and procedures, and over 4,500 hospitals nationwide were evaluated.

In addition to Dr. Miranda and Dr. Borchard, CAO has assembled an outstanding orthopedic team that includes Dr. Justin Grant, DO, CAQSM, a board-certified family physician with a fellowship in sports medicine; Dr. Rhett Griggs, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in orthopedic shoulder, elbow, and hand surgery; Dr. Gregg Martyak, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in hand and upper extremities; Dr. Mark Purnell, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in Sports Medicine; J.Alex Sielatycki, MD a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with fellowship training in comprehensive spine reconstruction and Dr. Dan Ward, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in total joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee.
