MEEKER I Pioneers Medical Center (PMC) is excited to announce its services are expanding to include a retail pharmacy, Meeker Drug at Pioneers Medical Center, spring of 2022.
The construction of Meeker Drug at Pioneers Medical Center is nearly complete. The remaining approvals from various regulating entities are processing. These agencies include: the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP), U.S. Health Resources and Services (HRSA), several insurance providers including Medicare and Medicaid, vendors, distributors.
The hospital has been working with Diana Jones to facilitate the transition from a downtown pharmacy to the PMC campus. Improved conveniences will include longer business hours, a drive-through pick-up, and a new, separate east entrance aside from the hospital’s main entrance.
“The pharmacy industry has changed so much with mail order, fighting with government policy and big chains for Medicare contracting and manufacturer price increases, it has become very difficult for an independent to keep up,” said Jones. “It was a hard decision but knowing that the community would not be left without a pharmacy I conceded that I could not hold on any longer. With programs accessible through an entity such as PMC, the community stands a chance to leverage the large corporations and sustain service to Meeker.”
PMC is grateful for the Jones’ whose family is a staple in the local community. Diana’s grandfather operated Meeker Drug for 40 years, with the Jones family succeeding him 12 years ago. We are honored to be allowed to operate under the Meeker Drug tradename. The hospital aims to maintain the caring, quality and compassionate service the Jones’ have provided their customers over the years.
“We are excited to offer the community a new location to fill their regular prescriptions,” said PMC CEO Liz Sellers. “The pharmacy will be able to offer an array of prescription drugs to help support the community’s needs. It will improve prescription services for our Walbridge Wing residents. Upon approval of proper requirements, residents’ medications will be filled locally.”
PMC will keep the community informed of the pharmacy’s progress with construction and the finalization of the various licensing requirements.
