
Noel Crown, 85, a three-time state pole vault champion from Rangely in 1957, 1958 and 1959, shares a moment with junior Kacey Allred and pole vault coach Dana Pollock at a recent meet. Crown said he began vaulting in sixth grade using a cottonwood branch and competed in high school with an aluminum pole. Allred won the event with a personal-record 12 feet, 4 inches.
