The Rangely cross country team is looking good for the start of the year. The Panther harriers have five seniors this year with two of them state returners from last year. Two of them are new to the sport of cross country but are showing some great potential.
Last year the boys team made it to state as a team and all of the athletes except one is returning, Andrew Dorris, Colton Noel, Fisher Winder and Kevin Wren. There are eight boys out for the team, all strong runners who push each other to be better. “They have set some great goals as a team that I believe they will be able to achieve, they will be a team to watch out for, even in some of the bigger meets,” said head coach Beth Scoggins.
Mary Scoggins is the returning state qualifier for the Panther girls on a team of five. “We are hoping that we can take a girls team to state this year, it will be hard but I know that I have some hard-working girls that if they set their mind to it we might be able to pull it off,” coach Scoggins said..
The Panthers will have their first cross country meet on Friday, Aug. 20 in Meeker. The athletes are ready to start racing.
