Rangely author Lou Dean will be traveling to Denver on May 8 to attend the annual Colorado Authors’ League (CAL) awards banquet.
The longtime Rangely/Blue Mountain resident is a finalist in the Adult Creative Non-fiction category of the CAL Awards for her latest book, “The Boys from the Bushes.”
The book is a personal history of 30 jockeys who began riding the rural bush tracks of Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas at a young age and went on to achieve national recognition.
Other finalists in the category are National Outdoor Book Award winner “I Promise Not to Suffer” by Gail D. Storey and the critically acclaimed “Sea Monsters” by Joseph Nigg.
Dean will join professional writers from across Colorado in the Skyline Ballroom of the Courtyard/Marriott in Cherry Creek on May 8. The author has seven books published, countless articles in major magazines and has received a Colorado Blue Spruce nomination, the Heritage Award and two CAL Awards during her writing career.
The local author rode her donkey across the state of Colorado in 2001 to promote non-violence in the schools. That ride is the subject of her latest book, soon to be released by High Plains Press, “On My Ass/Riding the Midlife Crisis Trail.”
