RANGELY | Rangely had a busy weekend starting with a road trip to Meeker last Thursday. the Meeker gym was packed as fans from both communities piled in to watch two exciting varsity games. On the boys’ side, Meeker took a four-point game into halftime. The Panthers clawed back to tie the game twice in the second half, but Meeker pulled away for a 50-44 league victory. Keihlin Myers led the Panthers in scoring with 12 points, followed by Kevin Wren and Timothy Scoggins with nine points each.
Rangely hosted the Telluride Miners on Friday and the Panthers carved out a 16-6 first-quarter lead. However, the second and third quarters proved fatal for Rangely as their attacking defense seemed to fall back on its heels. Telluride made 23 out of 37 free throws to secure a 56-49 victory. Kenyon Cochrane led all scorers with 12 points and Myers pitched in nine points.
Saturday’s home league contest against Plateau Valley had a similar feel as the Cowboys jumped out to a 27-13 halftime lead. The Panthers brought their deficit back to 10 early in the fourth quarter, but Plateau Valley pulled away for a 57-34 league win. Timothy Scoggins led Rangely with 10 points and Kevin Wren contributed eight.
Rangely is now 6-8 on the season with a 4-4 league record. Their next game will be a league contest with Cedaredge in Rangely on Saturday, Feb. 5. Game times are 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.
