RANGELY | The Cedaredge Bruins charged out to a fast start at Rangely last Tuesday to post a 50-45 victory over the Panthers. The Bruins hit all three of their three-pointers in the first quarter and cruised to a 28-15 halftime lead. In the second half, the Panthers tightened up their man defense and found a hot hand in Sydney Cole. Cole led all scorers with 25 points followed by Ryan Richens who contributed seven. While the Panthers roared back to within striking distance, missed free throws threatened to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for both teams. Cedaredge hung on for the win as the Panthers were forced to foul to stop the clock. Earlier in the day Rangely’s JV boys pulled out the victory over the Bruins JV.
Rangely made the long trek to Telluride on Saturday, Dec. 13 and their JV pulled out another win in overtime. However the varsity squad couldn’t find the hoop early and again found themselves down 15-28 at halftime. The Miners used a zone press to extend their lead in the second half while the Panthers committed too many unforced turnovers to chip away at the Miners’ lead. Gabe Polley led the scoring effort for the Panthers with 16 points, while Sydney Cole pitched in 13 points.
The Panthers host the Plateau Valley Cowboys for a non-league game on Friday, Dec. 20th. Game times are 4 p.m., 5:30, and 7:00.
