The Rangely Panthers traveled to Norwood, Colorado Aug. 30 for their season opener with the Norwood Mavericks. The Panthers came out a little flat allowing Norwood to strike first and then fumbling on their first possession. The Panthers then started to bear down and figure out Norwood and got a few key stops and score two times at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers gave up another touchdown late in the second to the Mavericks with about one minute left in the half. Rangely responded with a kickoff return for a touchdown by Titus Coombs going into the half with a score of 24-14.
The Panthers received the ball to start the second half and Coombs returned another kick for a touchdown. The Mavericks responded with a long drive for a touchdown bringing the score to 30-20. The Panthers struck again for the third kickoff return this time by Keihlin Myers for a touchdown. The Panthers were able to maintain the lead with a final score of 46-28. It was a great game with lots of big plays. Rangely’s JV is traveling to Grand Valley on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. and the varsity will host the Dove Creek Bulldogs this Friday at 7 p.m. Please come out and support!
