RANGELY — In what was the final home game for the seniors on the RHS girls basketball team, it was a total team effort that made sure they went out with a win against the West Grand Mustangs.
In the first quarter the Cats jumped out with lots of intensity and lots of defense.
After the first eight minutes their lead was eight points. In each of the next two quarters things were a little more even as the Mustangs tried to hang around, and the Panther lead going into the final frame remained at eight.
Not wanting to sweat it out down the stretch, the Lady Panthers put their foot back on the gas pedal.
By the end of the fourth quarter they had doubled their lead to finish with a 17-point quarter and a 16-point victory (48-32).
Seven different players scored for Rangely, led by Victoria Phelan’s 15 point, 10 rebound effort. Audrey Hogan also chipped in 11 points and three assists.
The Lady Panthers will move on to the district semi-finals on Friday, 3:30 p.m. at Meeker High School.
