RANGELY I The Panthers’ junior high football teams split their games Saturday with Steamboat Springs. The seventh-graders won 12-6, while the eighth-graders lost 22-8.
“The seventh-graders really gelled together as a team and executed flawlessly the entire game,” said head coach Tim Webber. “The kids played a great game all around. We controlled the ball for a good part of the game, but ran out of gas with about four minutes left.” Logan Paben scored both touchdowns for the Panthers in the seventh-grade game.
In the eighth-grade game, Steamboat Springs scored a safety in the first quarter and also intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. The Panthers scored on a 50-yard run by Andrew Morton, with Wesley Goddard adding the two-point conversion.
“We basically had a defensive battle,” Webber said. “Our guys were tough the whole game. They capitalized on a couple of our offensive mistakes. All in all, the kids did a great job.”
Rangely will play at Vernal, Utah, Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. at Vernal Middle School, and host Hayden at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
