Rangely hosted a sixth-grade volleyball scrimmage Oct. 16. Both teams have been working hard since the triangular with Meeker and Craig the previous weekend.
The teams are made up of 17 sixth-graders: Zoie Britt, Aaleigh Donavan, Tylee Fielder, Carmella Fortunato, Kaalyn Geer, Alivia Green, Josie Hamblin, Tara Hubbard, Aubrey Kenney, Sidney Lujan, Chloe Noel, Jasmine Preciado, Braydon Raeley, Aspen Steele, Aibrianna Tapia, Gracie Varner and Gabriel Vaughn. Hubbard was the top server in the first match, with 16 of 25 points. Hubbard had six points and Gracie Varner had 8 in the second match. The top server for the third game was Tapia with seven points.
Oct. 18 the Rangely Junior High 7A and 7B volleyball teams 7A and 7B headed to Plateau Valley High School for a triangular with Caprock. The 7B team played Caprock first. Kenney and Hubbard were the top servers in the first match. Rangely’s top server in the second match was Green with five points. Aaleigha Donovan did a great job playing defense. The team played hard against Caprock but came up short with scores of 25-10, 25-17.
Their next match was against Plateau Valley. Carmella Fortunato had an amazing kill and got the team to step up. The top server was Tylee Fielder with eight points followed by Braydon Raeley with six points. The net play by middles Aubrey Kenney, Aubrianna Tapia and Sydney Lujan was strong. Nerves got the better of the team in the second match. In the third match a number of players stepped up with their serves, defense and kills. Top servers were Tylee Fielder and Braydon Raeley both with five points. The team played hard against Plateau Valley coming up with the win with scores of 26-24, 7-25, and 25-15.
In the second set of matches 7A played Caprock. Top server for this match was Emma Winder with five points, including three aces. In the second match the girls were determined not to let Caprock walk away with a win. Top server was Angelina Fortunato with six points, including four aces. The team worked hard but came up short with scores of 14-25, 17-25.
As the serving started against Plateau Valley, middle Jade Miller and Miley Chisem stepped up with blocks and tips. Lexi LeBleu had some kills that helped. Ashlynn Ducey did an amazing job setting up Miah Wren and Angelina Fortunato to finish up with a few kills. Emma Winder did a great job defensively playing DS in the middle. Top servers for this match were Miley Chism with five points—including four aces—and Emma Winder with four points—three aces. Rangely started the next match with the first five points coming from Ashlynn Ducey. The girls fought to stay in the match but came up short. In the third match, defense on both sides worked hard with Rangely’s middles—Miley Chism and Jade Miller—trying to keep them in the game. The team played hard but came up short with scores of 25-20, 21-25, 18-25. This weekend gave both 7A and 7B some good competition.
