RANGELY | The Rangely Ladies Club sponsored a free 10-week golf clinic for girls in sixth grade through high school on Mondays from 6-7:30 p.m. It was a big success, with 12-15 girls participating each week. Half were taken to the driving range and the other half were taken to the putting green. Half way through each evening they switched places. Approximately on the sixth week they were taken onto the course and split into two groups and they played a short scramble to get a feel for playing on the course. A couple of weeks later they went out and chipped on each green and putted out on that hole. The next week they were paired with a Ladies Club member and each girl played from the 150-yard marker into the green. They did their best to make it around the course. The last week they participated in a putting contest to see who had the least puts. All the girls showed improvement from week one to week 10. Each girl received a certificate of participation, a T-shirt that said “I learned to play golf at Cedar Ridges Golf Course in 2019,” a goody bag with balls, a ball marker, tees and a hat clip. Thank you to Mark Skelton, Shawn Morgan, Robby Morgan and Marc Blake for helping with the girls. Next year the Club will try to get the second year girls out on the course faster and more often.
