RANGELY | The Panther Invitational High School Golf Tournament was held on Sept. 7 at the Cedar Ridges Golf Course in Rangely. The seven members of the Rangely Panthers golf team competed well on their home course, earning a second overall team placing. High scoring individuals included Austin Ficken, with a score of 85, tying for third overall. Phil Arnold, with a score of 90, was fourth overall and Nick Massey with a score of 93 earned fifth overall. Caleb Noel scored 114, Marshall Webber scored 106, Raiden Ganser scored 114 and Brady Bertoch came in at 129.
All team members attend Rangely High School with the exception of Arnold and Massey who attend Meeker High School.
Mark Skelton, Panthers golf coach from Rangely, commented, “Each week the kids show improvement in part or all aspects of their game and it definitely was apparent Thursday as the team total was the lowest of the season by almost 20 strokes.”
The team has competed in five tournaments to date, with two more scheduled this week. Remaining tournaments included Coal Ridge in New Castle on Wednesday, Sept. 13 and Chipeta in Grand Junction on Friday, Sept. 15. Regionals are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 18 at Devil’s Thumb Course in Delta.
