RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers traveled to Baggs, Wyoming, last weekend for a rematch with the Little Snake River Rattlers on Friday. The game was fast and furious from the jump. The first quarter was an even match, but the Rattlers found a groove and gained a lead by halftime. The Panthers struggled to find a rhythm offensively and ended up falling to the Rattlers 35-63.
Senior Kevin Wren led the team in scoring with 12 points. Luckily, Saturday was a new day and the Panthers showed up for their last regular season home game and senior night against Caprock Academy. After a hesitant start, senior Marstan Wagner hit a three-pointer that proved to be the spark that set the team on fire. The Panther defense forced turnovers that turned into transition buckets, allowing the team an early lead. The Panther intensity never let up and they extended their lead every quarter.
At the final buzzer, the Panthers had earned a 66-31 victory on senior night. It was Wren with the hot hand, scoring a career-high 26 points, including six buckets from beyond the three-point line. Seniors Marstan Wagner and Luis Quintana added nine apiece. The Panthers will finish their regular season on the road at Vail Christian on Saturday, Feb. 18.
