RANGELY I The Rangely High School Track and Field team started practice last week. They were missing several girls who were still playing basketball. The team looks to be around 25 athletes, led by six seniors.
“The team will be young and not [have] a lot of experience,” said head coach Beth Scoggins. “We will return six state qualifiers from last year. Mary Scoggins — 800-meter run, long and triple jump; Hayley Burr — 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles; Rylee Allred — shot put; Timothy Scoggins — high jump; Andrew Dorris — high jump and 800-meter run; and Kenyon Cochrane — discus. We are hoping to add several more this season as well as relay teams.”
The coaching staff will be made up of head and running coach Beth Scoggins, throwing coach David Boydstun and jumping coach Colt Allred.
“We are really excited for this year and this bunch of athletes. There is a lot of talent in this group and we feel that they are going to rise to the occasion and surprise a lot of people,” Scoggins said.
The first meet of the year will be Friday, March 18, in Rifle. “We will be missing a few athletes since it is the end of spring break,” Scoggins added.
