Last fall, Kathy Sizemore of Meeker donated two twin quilts made from fabric that belonged to local professional quilter Hazel Rosenlund, who passed away in 2013.
“I purchased these quilt squares in approximately 2012, at the antique road show event put on by the historical society. They were offered in a silent auction which I bid on. When I retired last January it was my intention to complete a quilt to donate to the historical society for a fundraiser,” Sizemore said. “There turned out to be enough squares and cut pieces to make two quilts, as of now. There are also many pieces that will make some squares I hope to put together. I hope Hazel and her family would like what I have done with the squares.”
Rosenlund’s quilting expertise was mentioned twice in her obituary. She was also a dedicated local business owner, owner of the local Montgomery Ward store and a genealogist who worked with Greg Berthelson to preserve the history and records of the Meeker community.
The quarterly meeting of the Rio Blanco County Historical Society will begin at 1 p.m. with a potluck lunch at the Heritage Culture Center at 517 Park Ave. The raffle drawing will be at 2 p.m. History Day competitors from Barone Middle School will be sharing their presentations, as well.
“You do not need to be present to win, but we would love to have you there if you would like to come and join us, possibly joining the historical society as a member,” said board member Jasmyne Denney. Winners will be contacted by phone or email with 24 hours of the drawing. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the White River Museum or by contacting Denney at 970-942-3351. Ticket prices are $5 per ticket or five for $20. Purchase now for a chance to win one of the quilts.
