RBC | 4-H members and coaches from both ends of the county traveled to Durango, Colorado, this past weekend to compete at the “Rumble in the Rockies” Livestock Judging Contest.
At the contest, there were 43 juniors in 12 junior teams and 35 seniors in 10 senior teams.
Rio Blanco County was represented with three teams. One team consisted of Klayton Carroll, Milo Brennan, Brodee Kilduff and Annabeth Moody. Another team consisted of Ally Black, Arabella Black, Waylyn Tuck and Lillie Potter. Another team consisted of Indica Rayburn, Copen Smith and Whitney Carroll, and they were combined with a kid from Lincoln County to complete the team.
The kids are scored in several divisions: beef, sheep and goat, swine, placings, questions, reasons and overall. This was a large contest with 12 classes to judge. Two of the classes had 10 questions each, and there were three sets of reasons for juniors and four sets of reasons for seniors. Kids are typically recognized at the contest individually when ranking in the top 10 and as a team when ranking in the top five.
Individually, Milo Brennan placed first in beef, eighth in swine, fifth in sheep and goat, sixth in questions, 19th in reasons, first in placings and second overall, giving him the title of Reserve Champion High Individual Junior. Individually, Annabeth Moody placed 16th in beef, 34th in swine, 19th in sheep and goat, 38th in questions, 33rd in reasons, 11th in placings and 20th overall. Individually, Brodee Kilduff placed 28th in beef, 11th in swine, 28th in sheep and goat, 19th in questions, 11th in reasons, 24th in placings and 22nd overall. Individually, Klayton Carroll placed 42nd in beef, 13th in swine, 29th in sheep and goat, 32nd in questions, 26th in reasons, 36th in placings and 33rd overall. Their team placed fourth in beef, fifth in swine, fifth in sheep and goat, seventh in questions, seventh in reasons, third in placings and fourth overall. Individually, Ally Black placed 10th in beef, seventh in swine, 18th in sheep and goat, 15th in questions, fifth in reasons, sixth in placings and seventh overall. Individually, Waylyn Tuck placed 22nd in beef, fifth in swine, 22nd in sheep and goat, seventh in questions, 21st in reasons, 15th in placings and 11th overall. Individually, Lillie Potter placed 19th in beef, 36th in swine, 33rd in sheep and goat, 40th in questions, 13th in reasons, 22nd in placings and 28th overall. Individually, Arabella Black placed 31st in beef, 23rd in swine, 27th in sheep and goat, 34th in questions, 43rd in reasons, 21st in placings and 30th overall. Their team placed seventh in beef, fourth in swine, eighth in sheep and goat, sixth in questions, fifth in reasons, fifth in placings and sixth overall. Individually, Indica Rayburn placed 23rd in beef, 21st in swine, 35th in sheep and goat, 37th in questions, 29th in reasons, 26th in placings and 32nd overall. Individually, Copen Smith placed 36th in beef, 31st in swine, 39th in sheep and goat, 28th in questions, 17th in reasons, 39th in placings and 39th overall. Individually, Whitney Carroll competed as a novice junior and placed 40th in beef, 40th in swine, 43rd in sheep and goat, 33rd in questions, 39th in reasons, 42nd in placings and 42nd overall. Their team with the Lincoln County kid placed 11th in beef, ninth in swine, 11th in sheep and goat, 10th in questions, ninth in reasons, 11th in placings and 11th overall.
