RBC I On April 27, 2021, at the request of Senator Kerry Donovan, the Colorado State Senate issued the commendation and congratulation to Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue for their ongoing service to the people of Colorado. They stated Rio Blanco SAR has demonstrated commitment to the well being of all those who explore the outdoors. The Senate thanks Rio Blanco SAR for their many years of effort to provide Colorado citizens with help when they need it most.
Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue is made up of local volunteers who have dedicated themselves to helping people in distress. This commendation goes to the volunteers.
Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue is supported by Classic Air Medical, Care Flight and both Fire Protection Districts who have assisted with search and rescue in Rio Blanco County for many years.
During this legislative session Senate Bill 21-245, titled Backcountry Search and Rescue (BSAR), has been working its way through a process that will affect search and rescue in Colorado. The aim of the BSAR Bill is to protect and provide for the BSAR volunteer responders across Colorado. SB21-245 will provide three things for the volunteers: 1) Define what a Backcountry Search and Rescue is 2) Requires that a study be conducted to determine the best options for creating a sustainable Backcountry Search and Rescue system for Colorado, 3) Develop a system to proactively educate Backcountry SAR volunteers regarding stress injuries and the emotional strain put on the volunteer responders.
