MEEKER | As the Meeker Lions Club celebrated Christmas this year, they recognized Jim Joy for his outstanding contributions to the Lions Club and the Meeker community. A Lions member for 49 years, Jim is the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. The award’s namesake, Melvin Jones, was a leader of Lions Clubs International in the 1940s. Jones once said, “You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else.” That is what Lions do, “we serve.” With the award, local Lions Club members recognized Joy’s exemplary history of service. The Meeker Lions Club would like to thank Ma Famiglia Italian Restaurant for hosting the Lions Club Christmas party, and Home.Made and Meeker General Mercantile (MGM) for helping to sponsor gifts for Lions Club members in attendance for the party. Club members would also like to thank everyone who supported Lions Club functions and events in 2023, helping the Lions continue serving the community.
