RHS cross country shines at Whistle Pig invitational

RANGELY | The Rangely Cross Country team concluded their regular season with a strong performance at the Whistle Pig Invitational, hosted by Steamboat Springs and Moffat County High Schools in Craig.

Leading the boys team was James Talbot, who secured 4th place with a time of 17:17. Kellen Lefreve followed closely behind with a personal best of 18:46. Other notable performances came from Joseph Valdez, Dylan Moran, Tavan Morgan, Kyler Fouts, Gage Nielsen, and Matthew Morgan.

The boys team’s collective efforts earned them a third-place finish overall. Coach Scoggins expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, highlighting the young runners’ contributions and their potential for success at the upcoming regional meet.

On the girls’ side, Taya Wren dominated the competition, capturing 1st place with a time of 18:58. Courtney Casto, Faith Prieto, and Rachel Elder also represented the Panthers well, each recording personal best times.

Coach Scoggins acknowledged the team’s youth and the challenges they face, but expressed optimism about their chances at the regional meet. He emphasized the importance of strong performances from all team members to qualify for the state championship.

The Rangely Cross Country team will now shift their focus to the regional meet at Confluence Park in Delta. The girls will race at noon, followed by the boys at 1 p.m. The top 15 individuals and top four teams will advance to the state championship. The Panthers are encouraging community members to come out and support them at this crucial competition.
