RANGELY | Lady Panthers opened their season after the holiday break by traveling to North Fork High School on Friday, Jan. 5 for a non-league matchup. The lady Panthers found themselves in a position they have not been in before much this year, trailing the Miners 20-12 at halftime. We made some adjustments and came out ready to play and take care of business, only allowing the Miners six points in the half while scoring 30 points. Cantrell led the scoring with 13 points and six rebounds, followed by Ducey with 12 points. Wren had six points on the night, Mergelman and Wagner added four. Dembowski had two, and Chism added a free-throw to round out the scoring 42-26 for a Panther win. The Panthers hosted the Soroco Rams on Saturday, Jan. 6 for their first league game of the year. The ladies came out and got after it quickly, scoring the Rams 22-7 in the first quarter. They finished the game like they started with a final of 58-24. Ducey and Wren led the charge with 15 each, followed by Cantrell with 10, Dembowski with six, Mergelman and Wagner with five, and Chism with two.
