RANGELY I The Rangely High School girls’ basketball team split their games last week, beating Meeker handily on Tuesday, 50-27.
Coach Quinton Kent said, “Thanks to a good defensive effort and balance on offense, we were able to pull away from Meeker in the second half of what was a close game.”
The Panthers had four players in double figures, creating problems for the Cowboy defense. Rangely made great defensive adjustments and held Meeker to just 11 second-half points.
Kent said, “We did a good job of playing defense, forcing contested shots and not giving them very many second looks at the basket.”
The Panther girls were led in scoring by Lindzey Thacker and Katelyn Brown with 13 each while Katye Allred and Sarah Connor each had ten. Sidney Shaffer added four points in the win. Lindzey Thacker also led in rebounds with nine, followed by Katye Allred with eight.
Against Paonia, the tempo and athleticism of the Eagles made the game tough for Rangely. The Panthers lost 63-22.
This weekend, Rangely will play Soroco today, they travel to Caprock Academy on Friday and are home against Little Snake River on Saturday.
The district tournament is finalized and Rangely will travel to Vail Christian on Tuesday for the pigtail game. The winners play Friday and Saturday in Debeque.
