RANGELY | Last weekend, the Rangely Panther cross country teams exchanged the flat, mostly paved course of Connected State Lakes for the all grass, hilly course at Sienna Valley Club in Gypsum, Colorado. The harriers all performed well in a deep field at this year’s Eagle Valley Cross Country Invitational.
The Panthers had both the middle school and high school competing this weekend, with middle school racing 3K and high school competing in the usual 5K. The morning started off with the middle school girls race, in which Alyxis Boren and Faith Prieto ran great times of 14:45 and 16:18, respectively. Taven Morgan led the young Panther boys team in a time of 14:45 with Alex Middleton right on his heels in 14:47. Alec Gillard finished the race in 15:44 to cap off a fine morning for the young distance runners.
The high school girls were next to the start line, where Samantha Granger raced as the only lady Panther. She completed the 5K in 28:49. James Talbot once again led the claw of Panthers, claiming a top 10 finish with a time of 17:22. Justin Allred was next across the line in 21:12, followed by Logan Peterson in 22:10, Lincoln Harris in 22:41, Kacey Allred 23:22, Gage Nielsen 25:36, and Matthew Morgan 27:08.
“The season is going by really fast, but I’ve been really impressed with our young team. Everyone is learning fast and training hard. It’s hard to believe, but we’re already starting to look forward to the regional championships to see how we can arrive at our very best,” said head coach Beth Scoggins.
The Panthers travel to Craig, Colorado, next weekend for the Moffat County Invitational at Loudy-Simpson Park.
