RHS senior Tapia named Boettcher Scholar

Special to the HT

RANGELY |  Rangely High School senior Aubrianna Tapia has been named a Boettcher Scholar, one of the most prestigious academic honors awarded in the state of Colorado. This recognition highlights not only her academic success, but also her leadership, character, and the impact she has had on those around her.

Throughout her time at Rangely High School, Aubrianna has been deeply involved in nearly every aspect of student life. She has competed in volleyball, basketball, and track, while also taking on leadership roles in FFA, FBLA, National Honor Society, and Student Council. Her involvement has not been about simply participating, but about contributing and making those around her better.

FFA has played a particularly meaningful role in her high school experience. Serving as chapter president, vice president, and a district officer, she has helped lead her peers while continuing to grow herself. One of the things she values most is seeing others step outside of their comfort zones. Whether it is encouraging a shy student to speak up or helping someone find their place, she has made a lasting impact through her leadership and support.

She is especially proud of earning her FFA State Degree, a challenging accomplishment that reflects years of dedication and hard work. Beyond awards and titles, however, she takes the most pride in being a positive role model for others, including younger students and her own family.

That sense of connection extends beyond activities and into the relationships she has built. Aubrianna spoke highly of the strong support system around her, including mentors like the Boydstun family, who helped prepare her for the scholarship process and provided guidance along the way. She also shared appreciation for her close group of friends, Taylor, Haiden, Natalie, Isabella, Addie, and Jay, who have supported her and wanted nothing but the best for her success.

Her family has also been a central part of her journey. Raised with the support of her grandparents, she has faced challenges that have shaped her resilience and determination. The moment she opened her Boettcher Scholarship letter, surrounded by family, was an emotional one. It represented not only her own hard work, but something bigger, an achievement that had not been reached before within her family and rarely within the Rangely community.

When asked what set her apart in the scholarship process, Aubrianna pointed to her authenticity. She approached the interviews by simply being herself, focusing on honesty and connection rather than trying to be someone she was not. That genuine approach, combined with her record of involvement and leadership, helped distinguish her among applicants from across the state.

Following graduation, Aubrianna plans to attend Colorado State University to major in political science, with the goal of attending law school and becoming a child advocate attorney. Her desire to pursue this path is rooted in her own experiences, and a strong commitment to advocating for young people who may need someone in their corner.

Looking ahead, she hopes to build a successful career, travel, and create a strong family of her own. More than anything, she wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Her advice to younger students reflects the mindset that has carried her to this point. Keep going. Even when challenges arise, there is always something ahead worth working toward.

When reflecting on her time at Rangely High School, Aubrianna shared that one of the most meaningful aspects has been her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether with athletes, academic-focused students, or those who tend to keep to themselves, she has built relationships across the entire school community. That ability to connect and uplift others is a defining part of who she is.

In a fun and memorable note, Aubrianna shared a unique talent. She can sing the alphabet backwards, a skill she learned as a child after a fifty dollar bet with her grandfather. It is a small detail, but one that reflects her personality, determination, and willingness to take on a challenge.

Rangely School District is incredibly proud of Aubrianna’s accomplishments and grateful for the example she has set. We also recognize the important role that her family, friends, and mentors have played in supporting her along the way. This achievement is a reflection not only of her hard work, but of a community that believes in and supports its students.

We look forward to watching all that Aubrianna will accomplish in the years ahead.
