RANGELY | The Rangely High School track and field teams were back in full force at the Cedaredge Invitational this past weekend. The Panthers had more than 30 athletes compete in 26 different events, many finishing with season bests and top places.
With many competitors available, the Panthers put together several relay teams. The girls 4×100-meter relay raced to a fifth-place finish in 58.19, the girls’ 4x200m finished second in 1:56.873, and the girls 800m SMR was third in 2:03.03. The boys fielded a 4x100m relay that finished in 50.88, an 800m SMR that placed sixth in 1:54.29, and a third place finishing 4x400m relay that ran 3:57.90.
Sticking to the track, the Panthers had several athletes giving their best in the sprints. Rachel Elder was the lone lady Panther in the 100m dash with a time of 14.77. However, on the boys side, Logan Peterson led Robert Murray, Davon Lucero and Izaiah Moody in the same race with times of 12.46, 12.89, 13.08, and 13.60, respectively. In the 200m dash, Ashlynn Ducey finished third in 28.92 with Maya Wren close behind in 29.22. Tylee Fielder ran the race in 30.99 and Rachel Elder finished in 31.63. Logan Peterson again led the boys in the 200m dash with his time of 27.03. Robert Murray was next with 27.57, followed by Kacey Allred’s 28.01, Lincoln Harris at 28.37, and Izaiah Moody 28.60. In the infamous one lap race, Taya Wren finished with the fastest time of the lady Panthers of 1:07.08. Rachel Elder ran 1:14.79 and Courtney Casto finished in 1:17.32. Jordan Irwin was the fastest of six 400m runners for the boys, finishing in 59.16. Caiden French ran 1:01.48, Kacey Allred 1:03.00, Lincoln Harris 1:04.06, Dylan Moran 1:07.65 and Matthew Morgan 1:20.21.
Moving out to the field and to the jumping pits, the Panthers had more athletes competing in all three events. In the high jump, Kastyn Dembowski cleared 4-4 for the girls and Kacey Allred leaped over 5-0 for the boys. Addison Scott and Kaelyn Geer both competed in the girls long jump with jumps of 14-2 and 12-5.75, respectively. In the boys’ long jump, Logan Peterson claimed fourth place with a jump of 18-4.5 as Jordan Irwin jumped 17-0.75, Robert Murray 16-1.5, and Davon Lucero 14-8. Kaelyn Geer leaped 29-3 in the girls’ triple jump as Addison Scott jumped 28-10.5 and Aubrianna Tapia jumped 28-3.25. Jordan Irwin claimed second place with his jump of 38-7 in the boys triple jump as Clay Allred leaped 34-2.
Shifting over to the throwing rings, Aubrianna Tapia led the way for the lady Panthers with a fifth-place finish in the shot put as she threw 30-1.25. Chase Cochrane was joined by Jaren Blankenship and Logan Benson in the boys’ shot put with throws of 36-2, 26-10.75 and 17-3, respectively. Aubrianna Tapia threw 66-8 and Amber Castillo threw 44-7 in the girls’ discus. In the boys discus, Chase Cochrane threw 113-1, Justin Allred 98-1, Jaren Blankenship 60-2 and Logan Benson 42-5.
Moving back to the track for the middle distance and long distance races, Courtney Casto and Macy Morgan ran the girls’ 800m run in 3:23.04 and 4:51.36, respectively. James Talbot secured a win in the boys’ 800m with a time of 2:07.04 as his teammates Joseph Valdez completed the race in 2:21.29, Justin Allred in 2:21.47, Clay Allred 2:28.49, Caiden French 2:41.01 and Dylan Moran 2:43.70. James Talbot also led the way in the boys 1600m with another victory of 4:39.08. Joseph Valdez ran 5:20.03 and Matthew Morgan 6:58.71. Taya Wren also took home first place honors, but in the 3200m run with a time of 12:26.50.
The Panthers will be competing next at the Eagle Valley Invitational in Gypsum, Colorado.
