In a showdown on Friday, Oct. 27, the Rangely varsity volleyball team engaged in a nail-biting home match against Vail Christian, ultimately falling 2-3 in sets (14-25, 25-22, 27-25, 22-25, 7-15).
The team bounced back Saturday, securing an away victory against Caprock Academy High School, winning 3-1 in sets (17-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-16).
Standout performances included Annika Cantrell’s 10 kills, supported by Lexi LeBleu with six and Addison Scott with five. Kaitlyn Cox led from the service line with 12 service points, closely followed by Emmeree Wagner with 11, and Scott and Karlee Halcomb with eight each. The net was fortified with three blocks by Annika Cantrell and two each by LeBleu, Wagner and Aubranna Tapia. Emma Smith’s 20 digs, Cox’s 16 digs, and Wagner’s 14 contributed to the team’s defensive effort.
As the regular season comes to a close, the Panthers boast a 15-7 record overall, with an 11-4 league record. Positioned as the 17th seed in the Class 2A girls volleyball regionals, they’re set to embark on a journey to Strasburg this Saturday, where they’ll face the 29th seed Wray and eighth seed Strasburg in pursuit of a coveted spot in the state championships beginning around 10 a.m.
