CANCELED: Ride the Rockies in Meeker

UPDATE: On Thursday, April 18, The Denver Post announced that this year’s entire Ride the Rockies event has been canceled due to “lack of interest.”

MEEKER |  Gear up for an unforgettable adventure with the 2024 Ride The Rockies Route, set to unfold from June 9th to 15th amidst the stunning landscapes of northwest Colorado. This year’s event introduces new overnight stays in towns never visited before; offering cyclists a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local culture and hospitality.

The cyclist will stop overnight in Meeker on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. The Meeker Chamber of Commerce is excited to be a Host Community and help coordinate this event here and make it successful for everyone involved. “We are excited to showcase Meeker for its hospitality and unique amenities. The event offers many ways for communities to get involved and we are creating the programs and activities to take advantage of every one of them!” says Sephanie Hanson, Executive Director of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce. There are many opportunities for our citizens, businesses, and organizations to come together and be involved to support this event.

The Chamber is working with the Rio Blanco Country Fairgrounds and the Town of Meeker to make sure planning is seamless, and provisions are made for the riders. With 1,500 riders here, the Town will see increased revenue for businesses, and fundraising opportunities for groups and individuals. For lodging, most of the riders will camp in tents at the Fairgrounds. The hotel rooms are full for that night, and the Home Stay Program allows citizens to offer their home to riders for their overnight stay here. The fundraising and volunteer opportunities include help with food service, beer garden, luggage and bike loading, aid stations, entertainment and more! Visit the website to sign up to volunteer: https://meekerchamber.com/ride-the-rockies-2024/

There will also be a business expo for vendor booths, live local music, activities and more. We are coordinating community meals for the riders. The Rio Blanco County Masons are serving a pancake breakfast with the help of the Meeker International Ecology Program. These 22 High School students are raising money to spend nine days in Costa Rica in June 2025.  A dinner will be served by Meeker Café & Mexican House.

Ride the Rockies kicks off in Steamboat Springs, on June 9th through the towns of Craig and Meeker, then a two-night stay in Rangely, where cyclists can explore Dinosaur National Monument.  Leaving Rangely riders will pedal onward to Fruita for two days of riding and celebration. If you have questions about the event or how to be involved, contact the Chamber of Commerce 970-878-5510.
