MEEKER | 4-H members and coaches from Rio Blanco County traveled to Castle Rock last weekend to compete in the Douglas County Livestock Judging Contest on April 18.
The contest featured 50 junior participants forming 15 teams and 20 senior participants forming 10 teams. Rio Blanco County was represented by two junior teams: Klayton Carroll, Milo Brennan and Brodee Kilduff; and Arabella Black, Ally Black and Paisley Potter.
Competitors were scored in cattle, sheep and goats, swine, reasons and overall standings. The contest included 10 judging classes and three sets of reasons for juniors. Individuals placing in the top 10 and teams placing in the top five are typically recognized.
Ally Black led the way for Rio Blanco County, placing 10th in cattle, sixth in swine, eighth in sheep and goats, fifth in reasons and third overall, earning an All-State point. Paisley Potter placed 37th in cattle, 26th in swine, seventh in sheep and goats, second in reasons and 19th overall. Arabella Black placed 22nd in cattle, 24th in swine, 31st in sheep and goats, 49th in reasons and 26th overall.
As a team, Black, Black and Potter placed seventh in cattle, sixth in swine, fourth in sheep and goats, fourth in reasons and second overall.
Milo Brennan placed 19th in cattle, second in swine, 33rd in sheep and goats, 26th in reasons and 17th overall. Brodee Kilduff placed 17th in cattle, seventh in swine, 36th in sheep and goats, 10th in reasons and 24th overall. Klayton Carroll placed 39th in cattle, 30th in swine, 48th in sheep and goats, 27th in reasons and 43rd overall.
Their team placed ninth in cattle, second in swine, 13th in sheep and goats, fifth in reasons and ninth overall.
