• There are over 500,000 telephones in service in the United States.

• It is reported that gold has been discovered again on Miller creek, but — don’t all rush in and gobble up the whole country the first thing.

• All users of water for garden irrigation purposes are requested to use nozzles on their hose, and to turn off the water when not being used. Owing to continued breaks in the pipe lines (due to the worn out condition of the mains) the pressure has to be kept low; hence, shortage in the supply of water. Waste no water.

• The county has received a large quantity of T.N.T. which has been stored for safety purposes  on the John Smith ranch, upper end of the mesa. All persons are warned to keep away from this very dangerous stuff.

• A.E. Rees was exchanging greetings with his many town friends yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Rees returned from California last week. “Dad” is still more or less disabled from the effects of the bad accident he had on the Coast last winter, so will have to take things easy this summer.

• Entertaining at the Oldtimers reunion here Saturday night was this group of Meeker people square dancing to one of their favorite old time tunes, called by “Spec” Clapper.

• Three Meeker young people were injured about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday when the station wagon in which they were riding rolled over 1-½ times three miles east of Meeker on Highway 132.

• Mrs. Elouise Bailey, who ranches and farms on Strawberry Creek, has a flowing artesian well, and at no cost, thanks to a seismograph crew for Humble Oil Co

• When not working as a rock-duster at the Deserado Coal Mine, local outfitter Layne Wardell takes greenhorns on wild horse observation trips in Rio Blanco County.

• When the stallion realized we were still walking toward his herd he trotted toward us, quivering ears aimed forward like radar as his mane danced nervously along his neck. “He’ll snort in a minute,” Layne said, right before the powerful looking black beast stopped, looked us over and snorted a challenge. Realizing we posed no immediate threat, he raced back to the mares and the colt, herding them off the rise while warily eyeing us as he brought up the rear.
