Call summaries
5/21/2023 @ 5:38 pm. A lightning strike caused a single tree to catch fire in the area of Highway 139 and County Road 128. Rangely Fire Dept. responded and did not need any further assistance.
5/23/2023 @ 10:57 am. Someone accidentally called 911 seven times within a time span of 30 minutes. A deputy responded to the address on County Road 8 to check on the caller. They were mowing their lawn and doing yard work. Everything was okay.
5/24/2023 @ 9:22 pm. A car vs elk accident occurred at the 37 mile-marker Highway 64. The occupants were not injured although the vehicle was not drivable.
5/24/2023 @ 11:50 pm. A search and rescue was initiated in the South Fork area. The male party was reported missing 36 hours after being last seen by a fellow camper. Search and Rescue volunteers responded as well as a Classic Air Medical helicopter, and a multi mission aircraft with thermal cameras. Rescue volunteers spotted the missing male from the helicopter. The lost party was located one and a half miles from the point he was last seen. Rescue volunteers hiked to where the male was spotted from the helicopter and applied first aid and assisted the male in walking out to where the paramedics from the medical helicopter were waiting. It was determined that the lost male be flown out to Pioneers Hospital to be treated for dehydration and exposure as well as a laceration on his head.
5/27/2023 @ 9:09 am. A golf cart was reported stolen from the South Fork area. The golf cart was later recovered at a nearby trailhead. A deputy responded to take the report.
5/27/2023 at 1:36 pm. A pine tree fell on the Fairfield Center. It had been uprooted and was leaning on the building. The Town of Meeker Public Works were contacted to respond. County facility workers were able to clear the tree from the building.
