MEEKER I The grand opening celebration for Sanderson Hills Park, located at 1091 Sanderson Dr., will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Sept. 21, and the public is invited to attend the event.
The grand opening will feature a DJ, inflatables and family-friendly games.
Sanderson Hills Park features a large soccer field, two playgrounds, pavilions and state-of-the-art restrooms. It is also a trailhead site for the Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Trails.
There will also be a 4.25-mile trail run on Meeker’s newest trail system, beginning at 12th and Hill streets. All participants need to be at the starting line by 9:30 a.m. The trail boasts incredible views of Meeker and the landscape of the White River Valley.
As part of National Public Lands Day, the Bureau of Land Management White River Field Office will lead a 4.5-mile hike from Sanderson Hills Park to Ute Park from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Participants will begin reseeding areas that were disturbed during construction of the new trail system. Those who are participating should wear comfortable hiking shoes, bring water and sunscreen. Workers should register for the hike through the Meeker Recreation Center.
