RANGELY | The Rangely Panther cross country team traveled to the Eagle Valley Cross Country Invitational meet on the Gypsum Creek Golf Course. The course was run all on grass making the course a little slower than a race that is on a dirt trail or a road. The Panthers all had a good day of running and worked on passing other runners throughout the race.
The junior high runners started the day off with their race. Both boys and girls ran together with more than 140 runners taking off at the same time. The course was two miles long. Colton Noel was the first one to finish for the junior high Panthers with a time of 18:21, followed by Norrah Patch with a time of 20:24. Macy Morgan was able to finish the race in 28:32 followed by Brooke Filfred with a time of 30:59.
Next to toe the line were the varsity boys with 234 boys. Patrick Scoggins took fourth overall with a time of 17:12. Cameron Filfred was the second runner for the Panthers with a time of 24:41. Nick Miears was able to finish the race in 25:19.
The Rangely Panthers had two girls running this weekend with 161 other girls. Raelynn Norman was the first Panther across the line with a time of 25:49. Chloe Filfred ran a 27:22, another season personal best. “It is fun seeing the runners improve their times and running strategies over the season,” said head coach Beth Scoggins.
The Panthers will be running at the Anna Banana Invitational on Saturday.
“This will be on a new course for this race, it will be fun to see if it is as fast as it has been in the past,” coach Scoggins said.
