Septemberfest competition, car show results


RANGELY | The 2022 Septemberfest celebration in Rangely was a community dream. United in connection, shared interests and celebrating the hard work that creates the American dream.

Saturday kicked off the festivities with the Fast, Flat & Free 5K which had 43 total participants this year. The finalists are as follows:

Women

  • 1st–Stephanie Shelley 29.50
  • 2nd–Melanie Kissling 31.54
  • 3rd–Shannan Becker 32.16

Men

  • 1st–Greg Vente 21.37
  • 2nd–Steve Green 22.34
  • 3rd–Tanner Wilburn 27.25

Kids 11 & Over

  • 1st–James Talbot 21.25
  • 2nd–Preston Shelley 29.30
  • 3rd–Sammie Granger 30.33

Kids 10 & Under

1st –Grant Shelley 28.44

The Bike Rally, sponsored and operated by the Rangely Police Department at the Rangely Automotive Museum, was followed by an open house for visitors to tour the museum free of charge. The Day in the Park festivities followed with inflatables for the children, a Cornhole Tournament and the popular Chili Cook Off Contest. The winners of the Cornhole Tournament were:

  • Social Division Singles: 1st – Shane Sanford, 2nd – Keith Ahrens, 3rd – Michelle Grady.
  • Competitive Division Singles: 1st – Troy Zufelt, 2nd – Clint Hill, 3rd – Jason Bird
  • Competitive Division Doubles: 1st – Troy & Joyce Zufelt, 2nd – Dallon Hackford & Kelly Smith, 3rd – Monty Forster & Josh Reynolds
  • Social Division Doubles: 1st – Shawn Seddell & Michael Potter, 2nd – John & Michelle Grady, 3rd – Tim Webber & Andy Shaffer

The chili cookoff had a total of four participants. Winners were:

  • Red Chili–James Odom
  • Green Chili–Beverly Hernandez,
  • People’s Choice–James Odom with a red chili.

The BBQ Cook-Off had three participants in the brisket cook-off and two in the chicken cook-off:
n Brisket winners: 1st–Chris Hejl, 2nd–Kelly Clark, 3rd–Charlie Lohse
n ½ Chicken winners: 1st–Chris Hejl, 2nd place–Charlie Lohse

Saturday finished with the Spartan Ball Drop and Carnival sponsored by CNCC Athletics. CNCC athletes engaged with community youth through face painting and a scavenger hunt. A “Sonic Soundbath” was held at The Tank by Ann Martin.

On Sunday, the Rangely Outdoor Museum hosted the ice cream social where three competitors made and served homemade ice cream. The winners were Chloe Noel with BBQ Pineapple in first, Ashley Sanford in second with mint chocolate chip and René Harden in third with banana split.

Sunday night, New Creation Church served dinner and a movie in Elks Park.

Monday kicked off with the parade down Main Street featuring all of Rangely’s favorite first responders and honoring the VFW. Residents and visitors gathered in Elks Park where 79 cars and their owners showcased their vehicles to awed admirers, over 73 vendors in the craft and booth show. The barbecue was prepared by the Western Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District and served by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to 739 people.
