Standout performances for Panthers on their home track

RANGELY |  Rangely High School athletes delivered standout performances at the Rangely Invitational, making their mark in sprints, distance races, relays and field events.

On the girls side, Ashlynn Ducey led the charge with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:01.10), a win in the long jump (15 feet, 7.75 inches) and a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.98). Taya Wren swept the distance events, taking first in both the 800 (2:28.51) and 1,600 meters (5:19.10). Senior Miah Wren earned gold in the 300-meter hurdles (48.99) and pole vault (8-9). Kira Jo Benson added depth with a fifth-place finish in the 400, sixth in the high jump, 12th in the long jump and third in the pole vault.

In the throwing events, Taylor Fouch placed third in the shot put (32-1.5) and fifth in the discus (84-6), while Aubrianna Tapia finished third in the triple jump and sixth in both the shot put and discus. Natalie Bollinger contributed with a sixth-place long jump and fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

The girls also claimed victories in the 4×100 relay (56.37) and 4×400 relay (4:28.22), and placed fourth with a second 4×400 squad.

The boys also had a strong showing, highlighted by James Talbot’s dominant win in the 1,600 meters (4:31.92) and Jordan Irwin’s double gold in the pole vault (12-9) and triple jump (42-10.25). Sprinter Logan Peterson placed second in both the 100 meters (11.76) and long jump (19-0.5). Clay Allred finished second in the 800 (2:13.94) and fourth in the pole vault, while younger brother Kacey Allred placed third in the pole vault and contributed in the sprints. Joseph Valdez took second in the 400 meters, and Robert Murray finished 10th in the 100 and 12th in the long jump. Chase Cochrane added points with a fourth-place finish in the discus (123-4) and seventh in the shot put.

The Panther boys claimed first in the 4×400 relay (3:40.52), second in the 4×100 (47.02), and third in both the 4×200 and 4×800 relays.

With multiple individual champions and strong relay squads, Rangely’s athletes showed depth, grit and pride on their home track.
