On October 28 Parkview Elementary staff in Rangely completed a Stop the Bleed class in conjunction with Rangely District Hospital. Registered Nurse and trauma coordinator Rachael Files; EMT Shanna Kinney, and family nurse practitioner Vivian Dillon presented the training to staff. Training included how to respond in an emergency situation, what to look for, and steps to take when caring for an individual with a bleeding wound. In addition to the class portion, staff were given hands-on training in packing wounds and applying tourniquets. The school district was also given a stop the bleed kit to be housed at the school. Cheri Smith, Parkview secretary, said, “I feel like this is one the best trainings and presentations we have had the opportunity to attend. It is important that in a school setting we are able to help students in need in case of an emergency.” | MATT SCOGGINS PHOTO
