The Rio Blanco County Historical Society’s Rural Schools Project began in 2017 with the restoration of the Coal Creek School House, and last weekend another milestone was reached when Highrise Tree Service helped lift the bell and spire into place. There is still work to be done, but seeing them where they belong is a reminder of just how far the project has come.
The Coal Creek School House is more than an old building — it is a piece of Rio Blanco County’s story, preserved through years of work, care and determination. Sometimes, after all that effort, you get to stand back and watch the bell go home.
