MEEKER | After swearing in Amanda Smith to the trustee position vacated by Tiffany Jehorek, Meeker’s Board of Trustees heard a presentation from YouthZone. The 50-year-old program, which is based in Glenwood Springs, provides nonprofit, comprehensive services for youth in the Ninth Judicial District, including substance abuse treatment, life sklls groups, and restorative justice, with the goal of reducing risk, developing family relationships and improving mental health.
Executive Director Jami Hays said the referrals they receive from Rio Blanco County are “flipped” from the other counties — instead of referrals for substance use, then harassment, and then criminal mischief, most referrals from RBC start with criminal mischief and crimes of violence.
Trustees approved a $3,000 donaton from discretionary funds for YouthZone.
Betty Kracht and Si Woodruff asked the board to look at the code language for subdivisions regarding easements. Town Attorney Melody Massih said the code allows leeway for specific situations.
Trustees also approved a modification of premises for Riggs, LLC to include Buffalo Hall for overflow seating; approved special event permits for the Meeker Arts and Cultural Council, rodeos for Range Call, concert and barn dance.
In an update on Phase 2 of Circle Park, trustees expressed disappointment that bids were approved without discussion, that overloaded dump trucks were going over the bridge, and that another contractor had been added to the project.
Also of note, delays in the project have pushed back the opening date to after Aug. 1, meaning Circle Park will not be an option for fireworks viewing on the 4th of July.
