The Town of Meeker’s board of trustees and the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District’s board of directors met in a joint work session Tuesday. They heard a presentation by Walt Proctor, director of the Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District, regarding a proposed display at Circle Park that would demonstrate various methods of water measurement.
According to Proctor, water measurement, which is now required by the State of Colorado, is not well understood by the public. The proposed display would have educational benefits as well as validate the various devices used for measuring water flow. Cross Orchards in Grand Junction has a similar display. Proctor’s concept would include examples of 12 different kinds of measurement devices.
Colorado Northwestern Community College is planning a series of seminars on water measurement.
Both boards agreed the idea could be beneficial.
During the joint work session, board also discussed proposed changes to the 30-year lease agreement between ERBM and the Town for the town’s parks. The lease is 10 years old, and according to ERBM Executive Director Sean VonRoenn, some of the language needs to be cleaned up, specifically surrounding shared costs, operational agreements, and insurance. Attorneys for the two entities will discuss terms and language before any changes are made.
Plans for Phase II of the Circl Park Project are getting underway, with preliminary discussions and introductions between boards and the SWCA project manager being scheduled later this month.
In the regular town meeting, trustees approved a home occupation special review for Kyle and Trisha Granahan to operate a bike repair shop out of their garage at 756 Hill St. in Meeker. “We’re trying to help out a need for the town of Meeker in the space we have available,” Kyle Granahan told the board.
Trustees also approved a special event liquor license for the Jammin’ Lamb event during the Meeker Classic. This year’s event will be held at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds, inside, after the event was interrupted by extreme weather conditions two years in a row.
A bid for a 2005 Ford Expedition was awarded to Suzanne Gerloff in the amount of $1,605.
The board also discussed the installation of a permanent conduit for internet service at Ute Park with members of the Meeker Classic’s board. The installation will improve the capacity for livestreaming at the site.
