RANGELY I An “unexplained event” at Kenney Reservoir on July 26 prompted the closure of the reservoir and camping area, according to a press release from Rio Blanco County.
In the late evening to early morning hours of July 26 and 27, several individuals at the site reported sudden, unexplained medical symptoms, some requiring emergency medical treatment.
Rio Blanco County recommended closing the reservoir to the public while an investigation into the cause of the symptoms occurred. Conditions were monitored and evaluated, and no ongoing threats to public health or safety were identified. The reservoir was reopened with additional monitoring in place.
Rio Blanco County Public Health and Emergency Management are asking the public to report any abnormal or suspicious symptoms, odors or activity at Kenney Reservoir over the next few weeks by calling (970) 878-9525.
