Updates from the Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District

RBC |  At the December board meeting in Rangely, members of the board voted to keep the Mill Levy the same as prior year. In addition:

• Submitted new purpose and need for Wolf Creek Reservoir to the Army Corp of Engineers. Two earlier versions submitted had been sent back by the Corps.

• Colorado Trust, which had housed the $4 million in CCITF funds that went missing in a suspected case of wire fraud, has been in touch with the RBWCD Executive Director with questions.

• The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is contacting RBWCD for more studies which will involve more spending. Board members discussed possibly applying not to be regulated by FERC.

• County Water Commissioner Betty Kracht reported that Division 6 Water Engineer Erin Light would be attending a meeting in early 2025 to discuss the likelihood of an “over appropriation of the White River” subsequent to the RBWCD’s call on the river in 2024.

• It was also reported that Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District was moving ahead on funding for a launch of a feasibility study of an expansion of the Lake Avery Reservoir.

• The power plant turbine has been sent for repair. Staff believes the April completion date is still realistic.

Next meeting: Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025.
