MEEKER I Michael Weinbrecht began his new position Oct. 11 with the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District.
“We’re happy to have Michael aboard. With his diverse background in recreation, he will be a great addition to our staff and be able to help us meet the needs of the public,” said ERBM Executive Director Scott Pierson.
Weinbrecht most recently worked for the Rio Rancho (New Mexico) Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. For that organization, he was a recreation leader, recreation specialist and facility coordinator. He was also an operations manager for an ice/roller rink in Rio Rancho.
Weinbrecht is looking forward to developing new and exciting recreational opportunities and facilities as well as providing quality experiences for the citizens of Meeker and the surrounding area.
In other news, the ERBM Recreation and Park District is continuing to pursue partnerships with other entities.
“We are looking at cooperative efforts with other entities. We have been talking with the town of Meeker to see about some of their park space and how we can provide services to the public in the best fashion possible. We have also been working with the school district to secure continued use of the old elementary gymnasium for some of our fitness classes. In addition to these projects, we are working on a trail system at Dorcas Jensen Open Space. Currently, we are hoping for a completion date some time next summer. We have also been working with Rio Blanco County on the meal site program. Once a month, the older adults of the community have been coming to the recreation center for their meal. This program has produced good numbers and the district is continuing to expand what we are offering the older adults and citizens of the community,” Pierson said.
