RBC I The seventh annual Colorado Western Slope College Fair will be held Sunday, Oct. 9th, at Aspen High School in Aspen, Colo. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., representatives from 220 colleges, universities and two-year and technical schools across the country and around the world will display information specific to their schools, answer questions about degrees and programs offered and explain application processes and requirements.
This is the largest college exhibition on the Western Slope of Colorado and provides a unique opportunity for all Western Slope students and their parents to research a variety of schools all in one location. This college fair has grown from 500 students during its inaugural year to more than 1,500 students and parents last year. In its seventh year, invitations have been extended to students and families from 60 Western Slope high schools.
There is no charge to attend the fair and organizers go to great lengths to inform and include students who may not have any other exposure to the college experience.
U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, State Senator Gail Schwartz and Dr. Diana Sirko, deputy commissioner of the Colorado Department of Education will all be in attendance at the fair.
Senator Bennet, the former superintendent of Denver Public Schools, will be making the trip to Aspen as part of his commitment to quality education for all. He will be giving a short opening address to welcome all the participants to the largest college fair on the Western Slope of Colorado.
State Senator Gail Schwartz, whose own three daughters attended Aspen High School, will also be in attendance for her sixth visit.
Workshops will be offered on topics as varied as Admissions at Highly Selective Colleges, The College Bound Student Athlete, Financial Aid for All (presented in English and Spanish), and The College Search: Finding the College That is Right for YOU.
Parking is available at Buttermilk Ski Area located on Hwy. 82, just east of the Aspen Airport. Complimentary school bus shuttles will run between Buttermilk parking lot and Aspen High School every 10 minutes.
The Colorado Western Slope College Fair Committee is a community-based organization that invites colleges nationwide to come and meet Western Slope high school students, their parents and counselors.
