MEEKER | Water users in our basin will likely become very familiar with what “over appropriation” means and how it will affect the way we use water on the White River. Over appropriation is a designation the state uses when water demand exceeds supply and water users must follow much stricter guidelines for the way we use water.
Domestic well users may see a dramatic change in the way they use water as well as irrigation ditches as more calls on the river will be likely with over appropriation.
The White River Alliance will be hosting informative meetings over the next few months with water experts that will help people better understand what over appropriation is, how it will affect the way we use water, and what folks can do to prepare for it.
Understanding over appropriation and what we can do to learn more will help our basin maintain a healthy river and water resources.
